Premium Rate Service launched by Skype

Skype have borrowed a well known concept from the traditional telephony world and launched their own premium rate call service, but based on VOIP.

There is however an interesting twist. Skype users can take advantage of the service to set a rate which other callers then have to pay when dialling the number.  The business model being that Skype keeps 30% of the revenue and the caller keeps 70% of the revenue.

Skype Prime Time is currently only available on Windows.

I’m sure there will be the usual types of nudge nudge wink wink ‘services’ provided, but hopefully we’ll see some genuine innovative services provided.

For further information please see the Skype Prime time FAQ.

  1. There is many “charge for call” platforms like “wengo” or bitwine, but they all have own software and not promote Skype Prime. There is site that was build to work with only Skype Prime and no additional software needed. If you are interested please visit
